In 2006, the digital revolution was well established throughout homes across the globe. High definition TVs, Blu-ray player/recorders, PVRs, and network-enabled game consoles were becoming commonplace. However the technologies for connecting these devices were lagging far behind. They fell short on providing the bandwidth, coverage, and ease-of-set-up required to allow these devices to deliver their full potential.
The Gigle team set about developing a solution that would reliably deliver high-definition content and services anywhere in the home. Simplicity and affordability were then, and remain today, key drivers of the vision. Ambitious, yes. The team coined the phrase “just mad enough”.
Multinational from day one, Gigle has assembled a world-class team spanning the globe with R&D centers in Barcelona, Spain and Edinburgh, UK, Sales and Marketing offices in Redwood City, California, and support offices near customers in all major regions.
In July 2006, Gigle Semiconductor was recognized as one of the “Top Ten New Startups” by the online networking industry site, Light Reading. In May 2007, Red Herring bestowed the Europe top 100 award. In August 2009, the Belkin Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit powered by Gigle’s GGL541 received the coveted PCMag.com Editors Choice award.
